Manual Handling Certificate



This course prepares delegates to look at their own work practices and contribute to the development of safer methods in the workplace. Examines how bad manual handling can cause long term injuries and impact on employee productivity.

Courses run on the last Monday of each month.

½ Day course - £35.00 per delegate (plus £7.50 exam fee)

The Certificate in Manual Handling is aimed at those who carry out manual handling in the workplace. It introduces students to the hazards of manual handling, the risks and controls available, and what to expect from a manual handling assessment.
Successful completion will prepare delegates to look carefully at their own work practices and contribute to the development of safer methods in the workplace in co-operation with their managers and supervisors.
Manual Handling activities at work are a common cause of workplace accidents often resulting in long term employee absence due to conditions such as back pain.
Course Content:
• The process of manual handling in the workplace.
• Manual handling injuries and the activities which cause them.
• Manual handling assessment and control options.
• Responsibilities imposed by the Manual Handling Operations Regulations 1992.
Course Aims:
• Explain what is meant by the term ‘manual handling’ and give examples.
• Explain how manual handling can cause injury and give examples.
• State the principles for controlling manual handling risks and apply these in a practical context.
• Demonstrate a general understanding of the value and purposes of conducting a manual handling assessment and what employees can expect of such assessments.
• Demonstrate an understanding of the main provisions of the Manual Handling Operations Regulations 1992.
